 ITEE International Research Tuition Award (IRTA)

School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering

 

 

In 2008, the School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (ITEE) will offer up to 16 merit-based IRTA’s for PhD candidates. 

 

These awards are very competitive and only applicants who can demonstrate the following additional experience are considered for these awards:

  • Academic background of applicant must be outstanding, i.e., equivalent in achievement to our university's top first class honours graduates.

  • Publication record: numerous international conferences, journals or book chapters etc.

  • Research experience in industry or through academic appointments at universities.

  • Certified proof of minimum UQ standards in English proficiency

Please be aware that if you do NOT fulfil all of the criteria listed above, it is very likely that you will NOT be considered for this award.

 

Advisors within the research group offering the IRTA MUST provide or source a scholarship at least equivalent to the current APA scholarship value, in 2008 valued at $20,007, for the duration of the award (ie up to 3½ years).

 

NOTE:    The student is responsible for paying their Overseas Health Student Cover (OHSC)  http://www.uq.edu.au/international/index.html?page=17545&pid=1119, airfares and there is no Establishment Grant associated with this award

 

 

Eligibility Criteria:

þ       The student MUST have UQ equivalent Bachelor of Engineering, IT or related discipline with an equivalent Honours Class 1;

þ       The student MUST satisfy all UQ PhD entry requirements including having sufficient English language proficiency at the time of enrolment;

þ       The student MUST be enrolled 100% through the School of ITEE;

þ       The advisors MUST fund or have a source for a full stipend at least equivalent to the current APA rate;

þ       The student must NOT assign their intellectual property (IP) to a 3rd party; and

þ       The student MUST apply for an IPRS/Endeavour Scholarship or other similar support.

 

 

Application Process:

]       Applicants eligible for admission into the PhD program are required to apply for Admission and Enrolment at The University of Queensland;

]       Complete the ITEE IRTA Application Form and forward to rhdoffice@itee.uq.edu.au; and

]     If the living allowance funding is from an external organisation/institution, then documentary proof must be provided, by either the applicant or advisor, that the funding is for at least 3½ years and at the appropriate monetary value.
