THE MICROSOFT PTY LTD SCHOLARSHIP
(INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY OR SOFTWARE ENGINEERING)
(Established in 2006 and maintained by an annual gift of $5,000 from Microsoft Pty Ltd to encourage and assist a meritorious student in the final year of the Bachelor of Engineering (Software) program, or the Bachelor of Information Technology program or the Bachelor of Information Technology Honours program, including a dual program.)
1. The scholarship is awarded annually by Senate on the recommendation of the Head, School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering.
2. To assist in the selection process, the Head, School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering must establish a selection committee chaired by the Head or nominee, and comprised of representatives of Microsoft Pty Ltd and academic staff teaching in the disciplines of software engineering and information technology, with the academic staff forming the majority.
3. The scholarship is open to students who –
(a) intend
to study full-time in the year following the award of the scholarship in one
of the following -
(i) the final year of the Bachelor of Engineering program in the field
of software engineering;
or
(ii) the final year of the Bachelor of Information Technology program; or
(iii) a dual program including either of them; or
(iv) the Bachelor of Information Technology Honours program.
4. The scholarship is subject to enrolment in the program and continued satisfactory academic progress.
5. The scholarship is awarded, at the discretion of the committee, to the
applicant
showing the greatest merit, as demonstrated by -
(a) academic achievement in their program to date; and
(b) an interest in software engineering or information technology;
and
(c) personal qualities, including leadership potential; and
(d) other evidence as may be deemed relevant to future success in
the information technology or
information
engineering profession.
6. Microsoft Pty Ltd may offer the recipient thesis mentoring in the final year (Honours in the case of the Bachelor of Information Technology) in consultation with the Head, School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering.
7. The scholarship may not be held concurrently with another scholarship.
8. The scholarship may be deferred only with the approval of the Head, School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering.
9. The duration of the scholarship is 1 year.
10. The value of the scholarship is $5,000.
11. Microsoft Pty Ltd may determine in June of every year whether the
scholarship will be offered in the following year.
