 NEMMCO Scholarship in Electrical Engineering

 

 

 

THE NATIONAL ELECTRICITY MARKET MANAGEMENT COMPANY (NEMMCO) SCHOLARSHIP IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING (POWER SYSTEMS)

 

 

1.  The scholarship is awarded annually by Senate on the recommendation of the Head, School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering.

2.  To assist in the selection process, the Head, School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering must establish a selection committee chaired by the Head, School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering or nominee and comprised of representatives of NEMMCO and academic staff teaching in the electrical engineering discipline, with the latter forming the majority.

3.  The scholarship is open to students who -
(a) are domestic students as defined in the Fee Rules; and 
(b)  are enrolled in -
       (i)  Bachelor of Engineering program; or
       (ii) a dual program including a Bachelor of Engineering,
       in the field of electrical engineering (power systems); and
(c) are studying full-time; and
(d)  intend to enter the final year of the program in the following year.

4.  Payment of the scholarship is subject to enrolment in the program and continued satisfactory academic progress.

5.  The scholarship is awarded, at the discretion of the selection committee, to the applicant showing the greatest merit, as demonstrated by -
      (a)  academic achievement in the program to date; and
      (b)  an interest in electrical engineering power systems, especially as it relates to the
             national electricity market sector; and
      (c)  personal qualities, including leadership potential; and
      (d)  such other evidence as may be deemed relevant to future success in the electrical   engineering (power systems) profession in the electricity market sector.

6.  NEMMCO may offer the recipient thesis mentoring in the final year and vacation employment at sites and for periods determined by NEMMCO in consultation with the Head, School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering.  If the vacation employment placement is outside the recipipent’s permanent place of residence, NEMMCO may pay, in addition to the scholarship, the cost of return travel to the site of vacation employment and reasonable living expenses.

7.  The Scholarship may not be held concurrently with another scholarship.

8.  The scholarship may be deferred only with the approval of the Head, School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering.

9.  The duration of the scholarship is 1 year.

10. The value of the scholarship is $7,000.

11. NEMMCO may determine in May of every year whether the scholarship will be offered in the following year
