A broad understanding of interaction design as an interdisciplinary field, including how other design, human sciences, and technology disciplines relate to the people-centred design of information and communication technologies.

A comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of people-centred design of information and communication technologies, particularly including methods for informing and inspiring design based on a detailed understanding of people in context.

An understanding of the field of interaction design based on contemporary works from around the world..

An appreciation of the link between theories of human action, emotion, usability, and sociality; and interaction design practice.

Effective Communication

The ability to collect, analyse and organise information and ideas about a design context or brief, and to convey those ideas clearly and fluently, in both written and spoken forms to various audiences through the use of presentations, sketches, prototypes, mock-ups, and documents.

The ability to interact effectively with others in design teams in order to work towards agreed design goals.

The ability to practise as part of an interdisciplinary design team.

The ability to select and use the level, style and means of communication as appropriate for the audience.

The ability to engage effectively and appropriately with information and communication technologies to investigate, explore, document, develop, and evaluate new designs

The ability clearly to communicate the results of research in a format suitable for publication in an interaction design or related forum

The ability to explain clearly and defend design research findings through studio critique, oral presentations, including at conference standard.

Independence and Creativity

The ability to work and learn independently and effectively, building upon the foundations of the Interaction Design degree.

The ability to generate people-centred design ideas and adapt innovatively to changing design contexts and people’s needs.

The ability to formulate and investigate interaction design problems, generate and evaluate solutions, innovate and improve current design methods and practices.

The abilities and skills that provide a foundation for future leadership roles in interdisciplinary design teams.

The ability to undertake supervised research, including the design and conduct of user studies and evaluations, in a systematic, critical and evidence-based manner, as an individual or as a member of a team.

The ability to innovatively contribute and apply creative design skills and knowledge in a research environment.

Critical Judgement

The ability to apply critical reasoning to interaction design issues through independent thought and informed judgement.

The ability to identify design problems appropriate for research and to pose interaction design research questions.

The ability to make a critical analysis of literature related to interaction design.

The ability to analyse data from user research and to systematically draw conclusions for design.

Ethical and Social Understanding
