Master of Engineering (Electrical Engineering) Program Statement of Graduate Attributes
On completion of the program, the graduate will–
IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF THE FIELD OF STUDY
Possess knowledge and skills which permit broad understanding of electrical engineering as a whole and may choose to obtain in-depth knowledge in the fields of Biomedical, Microwave Telecommunications or Power Systems.
Possess broad knowledge and skills across mathematical, science, and information technology disciplines related to electrical engineering, and an appreciation of how they relate to each other.
Possess knowledge and skills which permit effective participation in a wide range of work environments where electrical engineering finds application.
Appreciate the central role and the characteristics of good design and scientific investigation in electrical engineering.
Possess core skills in independent research in electrical engineering at a level appropriate for entry into a supervised research environment (PhD).
Possess core skills in those areas of mathematics, statistics, and physics commonly used in scientific investigation.
Possess an appreciation of electrical engineering as an international and collegial activity and transnational professional values.
Will display the ability to apply enhanced knowledge and core skills appropriate to the electrical engineering workplace
EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION
Be able to write and talk about electrical engineering issues and demonstrate projects in a manner appropriate for the research community, industry, and government.
Be able to participate in broad and informed discussion of engineering issues as a contributor to the community, industry, and government.
Be able to choose and use the most effective communication strategies in communicating with these groups.
Be able to effectively participate in and manage multidisciplinary teams to produce a common outcome.
Will display the ability clearly to communicate the results of research in a format suitable for publication in the field of electrical engineering; and
The ability to explain clearly and defend research findings through oral presentations, including at conference standard.
INDEPENDENCE AND CREATIVITY
Be committed to ongoing intellectual development, building on the foundations of the electrical engineering degree.
Be able to locate, absorb, assess and integrate information from a variety of sources to solve electrical engineering problems.
Be capable of finding creative and efficient design solutions to engineering problems.
Be able to innovate and improve current electrical engineering practice.
Will display the ability to undertake supervised research, including the design and conduct of investigations, in a systematic, critical and evidence-based manner, as an individual or as a member of a team and will be able to apply and contribute skills and knowledge creatively and innovatively in a research environment.
CRITICAL JUDGEMENT
Engage in critical appraisal of ideas and opinions about electrical engineering issues and of original research in electrical engineering.
Be able to evaluate ideas and opinions about electrical engineering issues and of original research in electrical engineering, make decisions and to reflect critically on the justifications for decisions using an evidence-based approach.
Use the analytical, reasoning, and problem solving skills developed through the study of electrical engineering to analyse, understand, and solve complex issues in the wider community.
Will display the ability to identify problems appropriate for research and to pose research questions.
Will be able to make a critical analysis of the literature and to analyse research data and draw logical conclusions.

Be able to take an informed position on the ethical issues generated by engineering research and its applications.
