To offer students flexibility in their study options, UQ has introduced new majors (in red below):

  • Bioinformatics – the computing behind the new biology.

  • Economic Modelling – combining programming with statistics and economics (not offered after 2008)

  • Enterprise Information Systems – design of enterprise-wide and multi-enterprise information systems.

  • Games Modelling – developing high-end games and similar software.

  • Geographical Information Systems – managing large scale geographical and spatial information (not offered after 2008)

  • Health Informatics – design and maintenance of computer systems for health care.

  • Human Computer Interaction – designing human-oriented computer and network systems.

  • Information Security – demand for knowledge in this field is at an all time high.

  • Multimedia – designing highly sophisticated multimedia, using visual thinking, 3D modelling, and programming (not offered after 2008)

  • Computer Systems and Networks – development and management of computer networks, distributed systems and their applications.

  • Scientific Computing – solving scientific problems, modelling, simulation and visualisation.

  • Software Design – creation and management of software applications, compilers and interpreters, concurrent and real-time systems, human-computer interaction, artificial intelligence.

  • Software Information Systems – development and management of data-oriented information systems.

The new majors for the BInfTech (in red above) extend the degree into new territory. Previously, your choice was limited to a single degree lasting 3 years or a dual degree taking 4 years. Now, you can complete the BInfTech and pick up up to half of a second degree in a double major, all in 3 years.
